Stress Echocardiogram

Sound waves are used to take pictures of your heart before and after exercising on a treadmill or bicycle.  The stress echo evaluates your heart's response to exercise.

In preparation for an Stress Echocardiogram Test please follow these instructions:

1. Do not eat or drink three hours prior to your treadmill, however, you may brush your teeth and have small sips of water.

2. Do not smoke prior to your test.

3. Do not take any medication prior to your test unless specifically directed by your doctor.

Insulin dependent Diabetic Instructions:

For morning Stress Echos take half usual morning insulin and skip breakfast.

For afternoon Stress Echosl take usual morning insulin and eat normal breakfast and then skip lunch.

4. A shower or bath should be taken prior to the test in order to allow good skin contact with the electrodes.  Do not use lotion.

5. Wear walking shoes and comfortable clothing on the day of the test.  Do not wear boots, high-heeled shoes or slippers.

6. Relax before your test; no strenuous exercise should be performed.

7. Bring the medications you are currently taking.
