Dobutamine Stress Echo

Sound wave pictures are taken of your heart while intravenous medication is used to increase your heart rate (simulating exercise). The Dobutamine Stress echo evaluates you heat's response to exercise.

In preparation for a Dobutamine Stress Echo please follow these instructions:

1. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight.

2. Do not smoke prior to your test.

3. Do not take any medication prior to your test unless specifically directed by your doctor.

Insulin dependent Diabetic Instructions:

For morning Dobutamine Stress Echo take half usual morning insulin and skip breakfast.

For afternoon Dobutamine Stress Echo take usual morning insulin and eat normal breakfast and then skip lunch.

4. Relax before your test; no strenuous exercise should be performed.

5. Bring the medications you are currently taking.
